Akatakyie, one of Ghana?s leading hiplife duos has told Showbiz that they are back to cause a stir on the local music scene with the launching of their latest album as they did with their maiden Odo Asisi Me in 1998.
The album, which happens to be their fourth, was launched at BusyInternet in Accra last Saturday. The two brothers told Showbiz that they believe the time was ripe for them to release an album and so they have.?It took us sometime to study the market and having done that we knew what Ghanaians wanted to listen to and it is just what we have done,? said Pharaoh the bigger of the two brothers.
According to the two, their current album is in their view the best among all they have so far come up with because they have matured and have come to know what they are about. ?It was so difficult for us in choosing one particular song for the title of the album and that tells you the strength of this album,? said Pharaoh.
The album is titled Yede Aba and it comes with ten songs on the cassette and thirteen songs on the CD. Akatakyie said they believe that society has done a lot for them as such they were going to give back to society part of the preceeds from promotion and sale of this new album.
?We have an obligation to give back to the less privileged in society,? said Pharaoh again.?We have decided therefore to organise a party at the Fafraha Orphanage on November 6 after which we will organise shows all over Ghana to raise funds for the orphanages in the country.?
Akatakyie became a household name about six years ago with the release of their maiden album Ghana Mmaa and especially the song Odo Asisi Me. They followed that with two more albums namely Kente and Odo Asikyire before this new one Yede Aba. They explained that this new album comes with several types of music including rap, ragga, highlife, Francophone style among others.
The two brothers from Suhum in the Eastern Region Ebenezer Kwesi Okyere Asumaning (Pharaoh) and Prince Kwabena Budu Asumaning (Culture or Kobby) noted that becoming popular comes with a price.?When you become popular you cannot do everything you want and also a lot of people expect a lot from you and they would not understand it if you explain to them that you do not have,? they said.Akatakyie assured their fans that they have ?something bigger and better on this album?.
