Songwriter and singer Akwaboah Jnr has revealed on Citi FM’s music on The Weekend Show hosted by William Diego Parker-Benin that all the songs he wrote for Becca, Efya, Dsp Kofi Sarpong and other musicians were given to them for free.
The 2014 VGMA discovery of the year said, "as at that time, I was just new to the game, I failed to recognize the business aspect of the work. I did not know that the songs were my intellectual property, so I was just giving them out.”
"I’m not a philanthropist anymore, I have learnt my lessons. I have now placed a price tag on writing songs for others,” he declared.
Akwaboah wrote Becca’s ‘Daa ke daa’, Dsp Kofi Sarpong’s ‘Ayeyi Ndwom’, Efya’s ‘Best In Me’ among others without a fee.
Akwaboah is preparing to release his new single ‘Me Do’ (My Love), a mid-tempo song which features ace saxophonist Steve Bedi.
