Alleged Rapist Granted Bail

Jibrim Seidu, 57 who was accused of defiling a 6-year-old pupil was last week arraigned before an Accra circuit tribunal. He pleaded not guilty.

Based upon facts presented by the Prosecutor, Police Inspector Emmanuel T. Boison, the tribunal presided over by Mr. Imoru Ziblim granted Seidu, a driver, bail in the sum of ?10 million with one surety. He is to re-appear on July 20, 2001.

Boison told the tribunal that the victim lives with her mother at Tudu the same vicinity where Seidu dwells. On June 5, at about 8pm the victim was returning home after visiting her grandmother when she encountered the accused person. He lured the victim to his room and forcibly had sexual intercourse with the juvenile. Thereafter, he warned her not to disclose the dirty act to anyone else she will lose her life. It was in school that her teacher saw blood stains in her under wear and sent for her mother.
