Amanzeba unhappy with Imperial Lather commercial

Legendary highlife singer and Vice President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Amanzeba Nat Brew has expressed disappoint at the use of foreign songs to advertise products in Ghana. Speaking at the Ghana Music Awards festival forum at the British Council, Amanzeba cited the new TV commercial for Cusson’s Imperial Lather soap in which some kids sing and dance in a bath tub to James Brown’s classic tune, ‘I Feel Good’, as an unfortunate persistent trend in the industry.

According to Amanzeba, advertisers need to focus on using Ghanaian songs to market these products since the products are consumed by Ghanaians. He said that if Ghanaian artists are well paid for their songs to be used in commercials, it would serve a better purpose in developing the Ghanaian music industry. He was particularly unhappy with the Cussons advert because during the re-launch of Imperial Lather, some Ghanaian performers were available to provide entertainment for guests and doesn’t understand why the advert couldn’t use a Ghanaian song in it.
