‘A United Kingdom' directed by Ghanaian-British Filmmaker Amma Asante premiered last night in Botswana.
It comes on the back of the movie’s world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) days ago.
In attendance were Terry Pheto, Abena Ayivor, Britain’s Prince Andrew and Sir Ketumile Masire (second president of Botswana), and a number of other dignitaries.
‘A United Kingdom’ is based on the true story of Botswana’s first president, Seretse Khama, who fell in love with a London office worker, Ruth Williams, who became the First Lady of Botswana.
It was shot in London and Botswana.
The star-studded cast of the movie includes David Oyelowo, Rosamund Pike, Tom Felton, Jack Davenport, Abena Ayivor, Vusi Kunene and Terry Pheto.
The movie will open the 60th BFI London Film Festival in October, the first time for a black woman Film maker.
