Renowned entertainment pundit and media personality George Quaye has claimed that musicians who tend to angrily rant about awards after being snubbed do so out of their love for the scheme.

According to him, such rants are a natural response stemming from their passion for the awards and the recognition that comes with them.

Speaking on United Showbiz on UTV, George Quaye pointed out the significance of recognition in artistes' careers, stating that it's not just about songs and streams but also about the accolades and acknowledgement from prestigious platforms and award schemes which are crucial for their career.

"Over the years, you would hear musicians ranting about the scheme, saying they don't need it, blah, blah. It's all normal. It shows that they love the awards; that's why they do it.

"For artistes, it is not just about songs and streams; if it were, there would be no Grammys or Hollywood Walk of Fame. It's about the recognition. That recognition is key to their career growth. It's needed," he said.

Turning to the African music scene, Quaye noted that many award schemes have become defunct due to the difficulty of sustaining such initiatives.

He commended Charterhouse for its resilience in keeping the Ghana Music Awards alive.

"If you look across Africa, we have had various award schemes which have popped up but are now defunct.

"It shows that it is not easy. So for Charterhouse to maintain such a scheme, we should praise them," he told MzGee, host of the show.
