She urged government to make readily available financial support or create enabling environment for others to help with their resources to boost the film and arts industry in Ghana.

Akorfa disclosed in an interview on Kasapa Entertainment with host Kojo Preko Dankwa on Kasapa 102.5Fm, that as a developing country like Ghana films that educate and create awareness should be commissioned by Government to help reorient the people.

She reiterated that should the government task Ghanaian film makers to shoot historical or cultural movies that can be kept in the film library, it will rejuvenate and develop the arts and film industry.

The ‘I Sing of a Well’ movie producer who was worried over Ghanaians losing their identity finds it quite unfortunate, the intrusion of the western culture into the country.

Akorfa continued that the country is now a dumping ground for other foreign cultures instead of patronising Ghanaian produced arts and films to enhance development in the country.

She added that preserving local culture is very critical, since it can propel individuals to attain their national development goals.

“Films, TV, Theatre are ways of reorienting people and effecting behavioural change so if we don’t see that and tackle it now then it will be difficult to change the attitude of the current dispensation.”
