Ghanaian international football star, Asamoah Gyan was crowned the Most Popular Entertainer in Ghana last Saturday at the Most Popular Entertainer of Ghana (MPEG) Honours ceremony, held at the National Theatre.
The ceremony which honoured accomplished individuals and institutions for their contributions to Ghanaian entertainment in the past year and over the years was a night of honours, laughs and music as legends of the industry came out to present awards to stars of the present! MPEG honoured individuals that excelled in their chosen fields, and adjudged by College as the individuals that stood out amongst their peers based on monitoring entertainment activities in the year 2010. The College, made up of professionals and watchers of the various disciplines in Ghana, chose 10 honourees for the maiden edition namely:
Most Entertaining Footballer Personality of the Year: Asamoah Gyan
Most Entertaining Boxing Personality of the Year: Joseph Agbeko
Most Entertaining Film Acting Personality of the Year: Kofi Adu (Agya Koo)
Most Entertaining Stage Acting Personality of the Year: Andrew Adotey
Most Entertaining Comedy Personality of the Year: Funny Face Benson
Most Entertaining Music Personality of the Year: Amakye Dede
Most Entertaining Radio Broadcast Personality of the Year: Fiifi Banson (Accra), Kwame Adinkra (Kumasi), Nana Otu Gyandoh (Takoradi)
Most Entertaining Television Broadcast Personality of the Year: Nana Aba Anamoah
Asamoah Gyan emerged the most popular entertainer after public voting amongst all 10 honourees. There were also awards for the National Theatre of Ghana, for its contributions to arts and entertainment in Ghana, as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award for veteran actress, Dzifa Glikpo.
The ceremony was hosted by singer/rapper/comedian A-Plus who got the crowd cracking their ribs to some good humour. There were also performances by Dela Hayes’ Women of Colour Band, Kofi B, Okyeame Kwame, Bertha, and Dada Halfco.
