In recent past, gospel music videos have constantly received scathing criticisms from entertainment connoisseurs and the general public for poor quality but the story is different now.
Many gospel musicians have demonstrated beyond reasonable doubts that they have come of age when it comes to music videos and can easily rub shoulders with their secular counterparts.
Ohemaa Mercy’s recent music video ‘Aseda’ is one classic video that has already had plaudits from music and entertainment pundits. Ohemaa Mercy is one of the renowned gospel musicians who have churned out hits after hits and have awards both locally and abroad with her music.
She has shot a lot of expensive music videos but this particular one seems to be the best ever from her stables.ohemaa mercy
Speaking to Ohemaa Mercy and her management over the concept of the video, they told Flex newspaper that the concept of the video revolves around salvation and appreciation.
‘In the video certain key elements are used to depict the story line. We used the concept of the evil one depicted by a black horse. The black horse represented the sorrows, frustrations, worries and trials and tribulations people go through. This evil one we assume was coming after a child of God; child of God represented by a lady in a white garment.
This lady in the white garment was running from the evil one. Amidst the chase, she fell. Her fall represented the falling of many Christians in our society today. This downfall is seen in our day to day activities as Christians,” they explained.
“So in our quest for salvation she cried out to the Lord for salvation and she was saved. Her salvation was depicted in the video by the rescue of a white horse which happens to be Christ. So the excitement is seen in the Aseda video through Ohemaa Mercy’s singing, self expression, the dancers and along the line the positive ambience felt when watching the video,” they further stated.
According to the management, they used a more youthful approach to create an appeal and further to extend Ohemaa’s spiritual influence across the borders of Ghana, making the video competitive enough for the international market and further spread the good word for the entire continent.
The team also did a survey and realized Ohemaa’s message over the years through her songs had gone far so they needed something totally new that could travel beyond her usual domestic scope.
They believe this is why the international market is rating the video high. They spent over Ghc 15000 on the video shoot. The video was shot by 4Syte Music Video Awards nominee Skyweb.
