Ghanaian Hip-hop musician Medikal has called on Ghanaians especially music enthusiasts to throw their weight behind Tema-based BET-nominated rapper, Kwesi Arthur, to win his first award on the International scene.

Kwesi Arthur has been nominated at the Black Entertainment Television Awards in the same category with Nigerian singer Niniola and Southern African artiste Sjava for the Viewers’ Choice: Best New International Act award, however, it will take endorsements from the general public to earn him the prize at stake.

With 100 per cent votes by fans being the sole factor of the category, Medikal, who has featured on a Kwesi Arthur track says all well-meaning Ghanaians should support the “Anthem” hitmaker to beat the competition from his rivals.

Commenting on Arthur’s nomination in an exclusive chat with GhanaWeb, Medikal said “seeing a colleague and a friend who does the same kind of music that I do, which is Hip-hop, a win for him means a win for me because it opens loads of ways for me, other Hip-Hop artistes and other people trying to do music”.

“If you dey watch Medikal right now for here, go vote for Kwesi Arthur let him win this thing and then we all win," he urged.

He was speaking at the Ghana Meets Naija pre-party held at the SOHO Nightclub at Marina Mall, Airporton Friday, March 8.

A few weeks ago, the award scheme released nominations for the major categories and no Ghanaian act was nominated in the international act category.

This stoked arguments on what may have gone wrong with the nominations or the performance of the Ghanaian acts in the year under review.

Surprisingly, Kwesi Arthur, who won the Hip-Pop song of the Year at the 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards with his ‘Grind Day’ remix popped on the list of budding artistes from Africa to represent Ghana at this year's awards in the absence of some of the country’s A-list acts.

His nomination has received massive support from both mainstream and underground artistes in the country.

The likes of Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Kidi, M.anifest, MzVee Kwaw Kesse, Kuami Eugene, King Promise and many others, have taken to their various social media handles to show their support and also entreat others to vote for the young rapper.

Kwesi Arthur has said he is humbled by the support and love he has received from the music industry indicating it has brought unity to the music industry.

This year’s Ghana Meets Naija will be come off today [Saturday], June 9 at the Fantasy Dome, Trade Fair - La in Accra.

Artiste on the bill tonight includes, Nigerian superstar, Wizkid, who makes a grand return to the prestigious stage, after his momentous 2013 appearance, Mayorkun, Mr. Eazi, and Dice joins him ‘Team Naija’ to battle Ghanaian acts lead by Stonebwoy, KiDi, Kuami Eugene, King Promise, Patapaa, Fancy Gadam as well as Uptown Energy front man Ponobiom.
