Bad publicity does not exist - Asem

Hip life artiste and songwriter Asem has said bad publicity does not exist in the showbiz world.

Asem recently made headlines over accusations that he had doped and defiled a minor and again was in the news just a fortnight ago grumbling about this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) nomination list.

In an interview with talk show host Eddy Blay, Asem noted that in the entertainment industry, no matter how bad an issue was, once you delivered on the people’s expectations, you would be fine.

“Well for me there is no such thing as a bad publicity. It all depends on how you manage it and how strong a character you are,” the ‘Give Me Blow’ hit maker insisted.

Asem, in an attempt to explain his controversial nature, likened himself to Portuguese football player Cristiano Ronlado, saying, “He is known to be one of the arrogant schmucks in the world.

When he gets on the field, irrespective of how much you might dislike his personality, you will absolutely love his style of play.”

According to the ‘Last Fyla’ rapper, in the entertainment industry, “once you put a good music out there, people would forget about all of your controversies”.

“We all remember that a group of Ghanaian musicians endorsed Nana Akufo-Addo and NPP lost, people were saying their careers would be over and that they would never work again.

But they put out good music, and people forgot that a few months before, they were on campaign trails. People don’t really care and just like to talk,” the ‘Bye Bye’ hit maker noted.

It would be recalled that the ‘No More Kpayor’ hit maker was alleged to have raped a 17-year-old girl in his house but the rapper, together with his then management team, handled the issue carefully.
