Veteran Ghanaian music producer, Fred Kyei Mensah, popularly known as Fredyma, has advised gospel musicians to be strategic in their involvement in politics.

He emphasised that gospel artistes should prioritise their brands before entering the political arena to avoid negative impacts on their careers when their political parties go into opposition.

Citing musicians like Diana Asamoah, Great Ampong, and others, Fredyma pointed out that they risk losing their brands and fan base if their party loses power.

“As a musician, if you declare your stance with a political party and are not strategic enough, your career may suffer,” he said.

Fredyma also stated that if gospel musicians choose to engage in active politics, they should adopt a strategic approach similar to that of musician Nacee, who has endorsed the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“Someone like Nacee is still relevant due to how strategic he was. So, it is a political game. If you are politically inclined, this is the time as an artiste to cash out and make use of the money because these opportunities come once in 4 years. After the elections, these politicians won’t remember you,” he stressed.
