Beauty queens celebrate mothers

Beauty Queens Foundation (BQF), a team of beauty queens in the country, yesterday donated items worth thousands of Cedis to the maternity department of the Achimota Hospital in Accra.

Both nursing mothers and those awaiting delivery received hampers containing detergents, powdered and bar soaps, washing pegs, plastic bowls as well as boxes of Chocho Herbal soap.

The gesture, the Foundation’s maiden charity work, was part of activities that marked Mother’s Day celebration.

Founding president of the Foundation, who is also Miss Tourism 2014, Princess Afua Asantewaa Ofosu, said: “Our Foundation stands to empower women in the country and beyond as potential mothers. We thought it prudent to celebrate the day with our senior sisters here.

“I need not mention the key role mothers play in society. As the world celebrates them today, we decided to bless them with our widow’s mite. It’s just a token, but I strongly believe it will serve the purpose of putting smiles on the faces of our sisters in this department.”

Adeline Addo, a nursing mother who spoke on behalf of her colleagues, said that “We are indeed grateful for the gift. It has really made our day, and we thank our beautiful ladies for extending a hand to us on a very important occasion like this. God bless you.”

The event was sponsored by Chocho Industries Limited.

Meanwhile, the senior staff midwife of the Achimota Hospital, Vera Avenyo, indicated that the department needed more space to accommodate its clients. She therefore appealed to stakeholders and corporate Ghana to come to their aid.
