The occasion of the signing, which took place on 2 June, was attended by staff of Zylofon, including head of operations Enoch Attakorah, head of PR and media Samuel Atoubi Baah (also known as Sammy Flex) and CEO Nana Appiah Mensah. Representatives from MTV Base, Sound City Nigeria and Trace TV were also present.
Mensah thanked the singer, whose real name is Rebecca Akosua Acheampong, for agreeing to work with the company. For her part, Becca thanked the media in Ghana for the encouragement over the years. Now 10 years into her music career, she told the audience that she would release her debut album and organise a concert to celebrate her time in the music industry.
"As I am about to start another journey with Zylofon media, I pray for the same love and support in all endeavours," she said. "I also want to use this opportunity to let my fans know that we will be celebrating Becca at 10 in a grand style later this year."
Although new to the Ghana music scene, Zylofon has gotten attention in the country. Signing Becca, with the promise of increasing the visibility of brand locally and internationally, is the latest move by the clearly ambitious establishment. In February the label announced that it had plans of purchasing local content in television areas such as drama series, comedy shows, football matches, dance competitions and reality TV.
Asked about more details of the contract with Becca, Mensah declined to elaborate, stating the financial terms of the agreement.
"We have done all our obligations as a record label under the agreement which cannot be detailed because of a non-disclosure clause we have in the contract," he said.
The deal has already been fruitful, as Becca officially released her first single under the label – a love song called ‘You & I’. A music video for the single was posted to YouTube on the same day as the public announcement of the Zylofon deal.
