British-Ghanaian actress Ama K. Abebrese has described acting as one of the most disappointing careers one can have.

According to her, resilience is necessary for actors due to the numerous hurdles they would face in securing roles.

“I hear ‘I want to act’ all the time. Being an actor is one of the most disappointing things you can do. It doesn’t matter what part of the world you’re in. So, you need to have a level of tough skin because it gets to a point where you start taking it personal,” she said.

Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime, Abebrese shared that despite her extensive experience, she has attended far more auditions than the number of films she has been cast in.

She recounted losing over twenty roles in the past year alone, despite her qualifications and efforts.

However, Abebrese stated that she remains motivated, using each experience to sharpen her skills and bounce back stronger.

“If I didn’t get it, it just meant sometimes it’s not for me and you; there are times when you find out who got the role, and then you now understand why you were not given the role,” she added.

Abebrese's many works include Beast of No Nation, Sinking Sands, Double-Cross, and Azali, among others.
