Kumawood actor Akwesi Asamoah, known in showbiz as Big Akwes, showed Ghanaians his rare ‘swag’ with the English Language when he decided to pay tribute to celebrated broadcaster, Kwadwo Asare Baffour Acheampong (KABA) at the one-week celebration held in honour of the deceased.
The Kumawood star, resolved to make an impression, chose to express himself in the English language, a rather huge shift from his usual Twi speaking exhibited in local movies.
Describing KABA as someone who played an integral role in his success today, he said his demise has brought him great pain.
Posed with the question of how he felt about KABA’s passing on and the role he played in his life, he said,
“ The late comer of my uncle slit top is tragedy, simply because he himself introduced me to Accra”. Unfortunately, she is no more so it gives me pains, that is my emotion”, he said.
A few minutes of back and forth with the interviewer on what the exact meaning of ‘widower’ was next when Big Akwes was asked what words of encouragement he had for the widow; this was his response:
“The widower, his wife and you said the window?....the windower should exercise patient, God give, God take”.
A colleague with him came to his rescue when Akwes finally admitted that answering questions in the English Language was a struggle for him and that he will prefer expressing himself in the Twi language which he was more conversant with.
