Brothers 10, 13 join music trail

Lewis and Jeffrey Lidfeldt, both pupils of Soul Clinic International School in Accra, believe that though talent is a gift from God, one needs to work hard at it to become successful.

At the ages of 10 and 13 respectively, the two lads, have worked so hard on their talent for music that they have two albums to their credit. They came out with their debut album in 1998 titled ?Alone On The Street?.

?And so what? is the name of their latest album. Expect it on the market soon.

It is a well arranged album with danceable rhythms that would put both the young and old on their feet.

The album has eight tracks, all in English. The two handsome boys, in a chat with the Junior Graphic at their beautiful school at East Cantoments, said the idea of getting into serious music came to them when they both realised that they could write songs, sing, rap and dance with ease.

Jeffrey, who did most of the talking, said they both enjoy watching musical videos by pop stars from across the world. They therefore, decided to come out with their own brand of music to break the monotony of hiplife which has captivated young children these days.

He said it did not take them long to realise that Ghanaian children had too much a liking for hiplife music. ?Our challenge therefore, was to break the monopoly in the new musical trend,? he said.

Speaking on their latest album, Jeffrey said, after putting together the lyrics, they decided with the support of their parents, to do the recording in Sweden. However, it was quite expensive and so they decided to do the studio work in Ghana.

When asked who their role model is, the two said they are not interested in following the footsteps of any musician now but are trying to reach the level of Michael Jackson or even perform better than him, to make Ghana proud.

?What makes our music unique is that though it is mostly rap, ours is full of sense. It touches on serious societal issues and is geared at reforming everybody?.

Born to Ghanaian and Swedish parents, Jeffery and Lewis who get along well with each other said occasionally, they quarrel, especially when one wants to go swimming while the other wants to stay at home and relax. Besides, they both like playing football, lawn tennis, table tennis and swimming for leisure.

Their favourite meals are French fries, fried plantain and Korvstr?ganoff, a Swedish dish. Lewis?s favourite colour is green while Jeffrey?s is blue, ?I use to admire green clothes so much when I was younger but now, I prefer blue to any other colour?, Jeffrey said.

With regards to their academic performance, Mr Edmund T. Lamptey, their school teacher said the boys are academically good and participate fully in all social activities in the school.

?They sometimes entertain their colleagues during funfairs or inter club activities at the school ? he said.
