Businessman fined 15 million cedis for issuing dud cheque

Tema, May 8, GNA- A businessman who used a dud cheque for the purchase of a vehicle has been fined 15 million cedis by the Tema circuit court "A".
Musa Adam who pleaded not guilty to fraud and issuing of dud cheque will go to prison for five years if he fails to pay the fine. Police Inspector Adolphous Otchere told the court that sometime in September 2002, the accused showed interest to purchase a bus labelled "for sale".
He said the driver took accused to Ms Grace Asante, a clearing agent and after bargaining accused agreed to pay 23 million cedis with an NIB's cheque.
The complainant accepted the cheque and handed over the bus to accused.
The prosecution said the complainant presented the cheque, but it was dishonoured. She therefore reported the matter and accused was arrested.
