Carpenter rapes 53-year old kenkey seller

Tema, Aug. 30, GNA- A 34-year old carpenter who raped a 53-year old kenkey seller at Sege, near Tema has been remanded by the Tema circuit court 'A'.

Emmanuel Akrofi Kabutey's plea was not taken, and he will re-appear on September 30, this year.

Police Inspector Adophus Otchere told the court that sometime in July this year, the accused person bought kenkey on credit from the woman, and when he failed to pay, she also seized his working tools. Inspector Otchere said later Kabutey paid for the kenkey, and remarked that it was a taboo for a woman to touch his working tools, much more, seize them.

The prosecution said on August 2, this year, the woman was returning from the market after selling some kenkey and on reaching a school compound nearby, the accused person ran from behind and pushed her down.

The prosecution said Kabutey struggled with her, held her throat, and hit her head on the ground several times, until she had a dislocation of the jaw.

Inspector Otchere said the accused person then sat on her and raped her until she became unconscious.

The prosecution said the kenkey seller was rushed to the Sege clinic, and later transferred to the Battor Catholic Hospital, where she was admitted for 12 days.

She mentioned Kabutey as the one who raped her and he was subsequently arrested.
