Celebration of Annual Samanpiid festival postponed to January 2

Bawku(U/E), Dec. 29, GNA - Celebration of the 19th Annual Samanpiid Festival of the chiefs and people of Bawku Kusal Traditional Area has been postponed to Tuesday, January 2 instead of Saturday, December 30.

The postponement was to make way for the celebration of the Muslim feast of Eid-Ul-Adha which coincided with the festival. In a press release issued by the Samanpiid Planning Committee and signed by Mr John Atiiga, the Chairman and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Bawku said in view of the fact that most of the people in the traditional area were Muslims it might obscured the essence of the festival.

The release said the festival was to express the gratitude of the people to the gods and ancestral spirits for a bountiful farming season and sought blessings for the future.

It said Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, who is a Muslim would be the Guest of Honour and it would be difficult for him to combine the two activities.

The release appealed to citizens from the area to take note of the postponement and turn up in their numbers to participate in the festival and contribute meaningfully to the development of the area.
