The proliferation of Social Media sites in the last decade or so has been hailed in many quarters as a great good thing. Social Media has given avenues and platforms for people to air their opinions on matters which would have otherwise not found space or audience in the traditional media setting.
While generally a good thing, social media, like every other invention has its negative sides too.
One of its negative effects, for example, is cyber-bullying. People sometimes hide behind their keyboards or keypads and attack others needlessly.
Cyber-bullying has forced some people to quit social media, but others, mostly celebrities have resolved to squarely face up to bullies who try to harass them on the internet.
www.ghanaweb.com, today, brings you some major Ghanaian celebrities who are known for speaking their minds when attacked, particularly by fans on social media.
Nana Aba Anamoah
Arguably Ghana’s queen of trolls, Nana Aba Anamoah on several occasions has descended on fans who have attempted disagreeing with her on some issues.
One such instance was when she posted a picture of Thomas Partey, Ghana Black stars midfielder to congratulate him for winning the 2018 Europa League with his Atletico Madrid side.
Nana Aba Anamoah posted: “Let’s celebrate a brother. Well done, @thomaspartey5. You worked your socks off to get here #Champion #europa,”. One fan who sort to disrespect her endured her tart.
The guy called @josephrise commented on Nana Aba’s post:“I think Nana Aba Anamoah wants to marry partey,”. But in a quick rebuttal, Nana Aba Anamoah replied: “@josephrise You don’t need to show off to the world that you have a master’s degree in STUPIDITY.”
Lydia Forson
Miss grammarian. Sarcastically known as “mess with me and smell pepper”.
Over the weekend, actress Lydia Forson was “lighted” up when a fan asked if she had seen a trending video which captures a lady slapping a gentleman believed to be her roommate’s boyfriend, with flip-flops, for allegedly cheating.
The follower nicknamed, Borla Bird said, “Hi @lydiaforson, what is your take on this lady beating a guy with slippers?".
The question which obviously seemed harmless triggered Lydia Forson’s “all-time” demonic anger. She replied, "This is why you should be careful of the nicknames you give yourself. See how you’re here acting like a Borla Bird and dirtying yourself by exposing your ignorance. Are you so stupid you need me to tell you it’s wrong for any HUMAN being to hit someone?".
Bridget Otoo
News Anchor at TV3, Bridget Otoo is still enduring the rants of Twitter users after her post, on Monday, October 14, 2019, about how men who cheat in relationships should be treated.
The presenter's post sparked outrage and displeasure of some Twitter users and she didn’t take it well. She directly descended into the gutters with her critics and gave them a piece of her mind.
According to reports, Bridget Otoo sent private messages of unprintable insults to people who criticized her or tweeted anything unfavorable related to her post.
A lot of guys are triggered because deep down they like it when two women have a go at each other... !!! Don’t give them that satisfaction!

John Dumelo
John Dumelo will not directly insult you because of his political agenda but when it comes to savagery, don’t go there!
Days after he won the Ayawaso primaries, the actor was questioned on twitter about his message for the people of the constituency because according to the tweet, all Dumelo is doing is to be taking selfies with constituents and nothing else.
The user mentioned that his celebrity status won’t do him any good during the 2020 elections and therefore he needs to have a message.
John Dumelo reacting to the tweep told the fan that elections are not won on social media and that what he posts on social media is what he wants the world to see. “The Message I Have For AWW Constituents Is Not Posted On Social Media. Elections Are Not Won Here”, his tweet to one of his fans read.
Yvonne Nelson
Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson also traded insults with some of her followers on Twitter after she put up a post suggesting she might hit the streets soon with another Dumsor demonstration as she did in 2015 if the President Nana Addo government do not fix it.
The actress didn’t take the jabs from the fans lightly but dealt very well with them.
