Former U.S. president Barack Obama has finally unveiled his 2024 summer playlist. The list as usual features global artists.

In this year’s list, only two African artists were featured.

Nigeria’s rising singer, Temilade Openiyi, well-known as Tems, and Divine Ikubor, also known widely as Rema, were the only African artists featured in Obama’s 2024 summer playlist.

Tems made the list with her song ‘Love Me Jeje’ off her debut studio album ‘Born in the Wild’ – released in 2024.

Making the cut on the side of Rema was his chart-topping song titled ‘Yayo’ from his sophomore album “Rave & Roses” (not “HEIS”). The Nigerian singer and songwriter has attained a great feat with this song as it garnered 60 million streams on Spotify and topped the charts in Greece.

Sharing his 2024 summer playlist, former president Obama wrote on X: “As summer winds down, I’m excited to share some of my recent favorite tunes – and, as always, I’ve curated an eclectic mix. I hope you discover something new to enjoy!”

The playlist also features Charli XCX’s “365,” Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em,” Tommy Richman’s “Million Dollar Baby,” “Wanna Be” by Glorilla & Megan Thee Stallion, Billie Eilish’s “CHIHIRO,” as well as tracks like 2Pac’s “How Do U Want It” featuring K-Ci & JoJo and Bob Dylan’s “Silvio.”

Opening up about what influences his selection and current music taste, Barack Obama in a recent interview with influencer Carter Gregory (thecarterb), disclosed that his daughters, Sasha and Malia, play a key role.

“I get referrals from my daughters — which keeps me not stuck in the ’80s,” the former U.S. president revealed.
