Veteran Ghanaian gospel musician Apostle Lenny Akpadie stated that Christians should avoid singing secular songs.

Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime, he emphasised that since Jesus is the central figure in Christianity, any music that deviates from this focus is not appropriate for Christians.

When asked if Christians who sing secular music have strayed, Apostle Akpadie responded, "You have strayed big time. The standard is set by God, and He says there's no union between light and darkness."

He also criticised gospel musicians who allow secular artistes to write songs for them, arguing that secular musicians lack the spiritual foundation to create spirit-filled songs.

He stated that this practice is a form of defilement, as secular artistes do not have the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

"Those gospel musicians missed it. You can't write me a song; where is the Holy Spirit? You see, it's a defilement. The Holy Ghost is our teacher, and I receive songs from the Holy Ghost," he explained.

According to him, the messenger is as important as the message, and gospel ministers should deliver content that reflects their beliefs. He stressed that the lyrics of a song define the artist's faith and should be inspired by the Holy Spirit.

Notably, some popular secular musicians, such as Kuami Eugene and Kwabena Kwabena, have written songs for gospel artistes.

Additionally, songs like King Paluta’s ‘Aseda’ and ‘Makoma’ have been spotted being performed in churches.
