'Citi FM Easter Orphan Project' To Show Love

As Christians the world over shift into reflective mode in preparation for one of the world’s most significant celebrations, the Easter festivities, Citi 97.3FM has set in motion the 6th edition of a philanthropic project that has become one of the station’s memorable and most-looked-forward-to hallmarks.

The Easter project, dubbed the Citi FM Easter Orphan Project, has over the last five years sought to actuate and practicalise the over-arching theme of the Easter celebrations; i.e. sacrifice, compassion for one’s neighbor and the active display of love; especially towards the less fortunate in society.

Consequently, in accordance with the true spirit of Easter, the radio station has partnered its listeners and a growing number of corporate bodies to support and provide for the unique needs of a very special but less fortunate segment of Ghanaian society; young orphans.

The past five years has seen a contingent of Citi FM staff, listeners of the station, well-meaning institutions and other well-wishers storm the premises of a number of orphanages to donate their widow’s mite towards the upkeep of the inhabitant orphans and more essentially to interact with, befriend and inspire the resident orphans. This year will be no different as Citi FM plans to celebrate Easter 2012 by feting and mingling with orphans at four selected orphanages, namely: Mama Lardi Orphanage (Bolgatanga), BASCO Missions (Suhum),

Handivangelism Orphanage (Haatso) and Jehovah Raffa Orphanage (Suhum). Programs Manager of Citi FM, Jessica Opare-Saforo, has reiterated that the Easter Orphan project was one of the station’s most cherished initiatives and hence preparations were feverishly underway to ensure that these lucky orphans experienced an Easter never to forget.

To this end ,she stated that plans were afoot to enable the project to raise a minimum amount of GH¢60,000.00 to cater adequately for the orphans’ diverse needs and to implement a number of long-term projects to sustain the selected orphanages.

She said this year’s edition of the Easter Orphan Project sought not only to highlight the potential that lies within every child; including orphans but to put lasting smiles on the faces of the selected orphans.

She pleaded with members of the public to donate in cash and kind to support a truly worthwhile cause. Individuals and corporate bodies are to bring cash and kind donations to the front desk of Citi FM, number 11 Tettey Loop, Adabraka or call 0302-22-49-59 or send an e-mail to orphan@citifmonline.com for further information.

All sorts of donations such as toys, bags of rice, gari, toiletries, bedding material, clothes etc. are welcome. Citi FM has always had a penchant for delivering above and beyond their stated promises and as Easter approaches, the clarion call by Jessica and her able colleagues at Citi FM is: “Join us, as we put a lasting smile on the face of an orphan and invest into the future one of our own.”
