Clutch purses brewed by us and for us

Gone are the days when gargantuan bags were the in-thing and a lady was counted as ‘not being part of society’. A lady attending an event in Ghana or across the world is incomplete without having something little to hold in her hand, be it to a night out, weddings, concerts or even festive occasions.

From nowhere came ‘the clutch’. It’s an evening bag which is a definite must have for every woman and it is excellent for keeping personal belongings which are easy to carry especially a woman’s must have necessity for a night out, weddings, concerts or even festive occasions.

n Let’s take our minds back a bit into the coming of one of the world’s popular brands; the Tory Burch Robinson’s clutches which have always been seen at our events? She is one designer who has made women fall in love with the clutch purse all over again, from the days of the clutch being made exclusively for formal occasions. Back in the day, when clutch purse where made for women of the upper class who attended exclusive events such as the horse racing competitions, polo events or tea parties and the likes.

h Trendy and sophistication defines the confident woman who knows how to complement her clutch purse to her clothe with a touch of feminine look. Fortunately, with the emergence of designers with trendy and innovative designs of the clutch made with African fabrics, women most definitely have no need for outside made clutch.

l Now women in Ghana can identify with African print designs much better than with the Western clutch, due to our familiarity with the Fabrics used in the production. Ladies go out with their clutch purse to almost everywhere, from weddings, concerts, night out with the girls or even just window shopping especially when you don’t need the hustle of a big handbag to tie you down.

From our backyards, we have made the clutch trend fun and funky, as the designers of African print clutch purses are experimenting with vast amount of fabrics available to create designs which will satiate the appetites of their consumers, with everything both the ones that need to be seen or unseen by the ladies.

m The African print clutches are also women’s favorite at the moment with its fun, excitement, sophistications, elegance and class. Just as back in the days when these clutches came, the African print ones have creative taste shapes ranging from heart shapes or geometric shapes like circular, triangular or hexagonal shapes. The West introduced it but we are perfecting it to suit our taste in all forms and designs.

My view on Africa prints made into fashionable accessories, remains solid, therefore, my thought on this piece in regards to my recent contact with the clutch going African, is to promote traditional quilt technique, patchwork which involves putting small bits of material together to make a larger piece and in conclusion celebrate made in Africa design.
