Tema, Dec. 26, GNA - A 29-year-old driver at Ashaiman has been remanded in prison custody by the Tema Circuit Court "B" for raping an 18-year-old apprentice-seamstress.
Agbey Mathias Aflakpuvi pleaded not guilty to the charge of raping and will reappear on January 4, 2005.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Edith Nutakor told the court presided over by Mr Stephen Teye that, on November 12, 2004, at about 0700 hours, the accused went to the victim's workshop while her mistress was not there and asked her to accompany him to his house to collect pineapple for her mistress.
She said on reaching his room with the victim, the accused closed the door, threw the key under the bed, and tried to have sex with her, which she disagreed but he struggled with until she gave in but then on condition that he will use condom.
Chief Inspector Nutakor said the victim agreed and used condom. The prosecution said when she was released; she reported the case to her mistress and later to her brother, who accompanied her to police station.
The Ashaiman police transferred the case to the Tema Women and Juvenile Unit (WAJU), where she was issued with a medical form to go to hospital for examination and treatment.
