Conference Centre Dome to be closed down for renovation

In recent times, the Dome of the Accra International Conference Center has been the preferred choice of venue for most event organizers.

This however won’t be the case for at least the next ten months. Management of the facility are closing it down for renovation.

Fennec Okyere, Project Manager of the Dome, made this known on Peace FM’s Entertainment Review show, on Saturday.

Major works on the facility will lead to an improved sitting style, sound system and security detail. The venue should be ready by December 2013, Okyere says.

Okyere’s announcement comes days after The Weekend Globe newspaper reported of a looming disaster at the venue if its conditions weren’t appraised for onward renovation. Fennec however denied suggestions that their reaction has to do with the said report.

A major venue for most of Ghana’s entertainment-related events particularly music concerts, the structure was built temporarily for the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD XII), in 2008.

It was meant to have been demolished after the conference but some private individuals showed interest in its management.

This situation is likely to put pressure on the remaining venues around, particularly the main Conference Centre, the National Theatre and the State Banquet Hall.
