Just like one of his “Cantata” episodes on GTV every Sunday, the late Director, Writer and actor, Nana Bosomprah, would have been the best person to direct the story of his funeral if he were alive.
The funeral of the late Television drama gem was turned into a verbal bout between family members and some influential people in the movie industry, against “cantata” actress Julie Juu, over who has the right to organize the funeral.
Before the funeral ceremony at Dansoman in Accra, on Saturday May 31, 2010 actress Julie Juu who claims to be legally married to the late Bosompra, put in a court injunction to stop any body from burying the late producer, until she is recognized as Nana Bosompra’s wife.
According to the court statement, the family was supposed to appear in court on Thursday August 5, 2010 before Bosompra’s remains is buried, but they went ahead to bury him and refused to make a court appearance on the said date.
The court has therefore charged renowned actor David Dontoh (Ghanaman), Amankwa Ampofo of GTV, actress turned Politician Grace Omaboe (Maame Dokono) who helped the family to organize the funeral, and the Abusuapayin (Family head) of Nana Bosompra, for contempt of court. They will appear in court for the first hearing on Thursday August 12.
Actor and TV presenter Amankwa Ampofoh confirmed this in an interview on Peace FM’s “Entertainment Review”. He said he didn’t know why his name was stated in the court summons because he is not a family member; he only gave the family a helping hand as the late Bosomprah’s friend and colleague.
“I heard that there was a court injunction on the funeral but I don’t know what the family told the court because they only called to inform me that the body has been released to them. So I and others helped the family to bury our dear brother, but after the funeral I received a court summons for contempt of court”.
According to Mr. Ampofo, the name on the summons was Mrs. Juliana Bosompra (Julie Juu) who claims to be the legal widow for the late Nana Bosompra, and she wants David Dontoh, Amankwa Ampofo, Grace Omaboe and the family to explain to the court why they buried her husband without her prior approval.
“Whether Julie Juu is a widow or not, I can’t tell. Only the court can determine that. So we will be in court on Thursday to see the outcome”, he stated.
Meanwhile, Nana Sei, son of Nana Bosomprah who spoke to peacefmonline.com on behalf of the family, also confirmed that Julie Juu who was referred to as Mrs. Juliana Bosompra in the court sermons, has sued the Abusua-panyin and, for that matter, the whole family for contempt of court. Nana Sei said, he will appear in court with his family, come Thursday August 12, 2010.
