Today is the finals for the Elite Model Look international competition. As reported in our last article on this event, we exposed the racial limitations of the competition, Elite Model Look has never seen a black girl or in this case a non-white girl win the international competition since it started in the 80s, despite the huge amount of super models who participate.
Awa Sanako, whose name has rang bells across Africa and the fashion world for her unique features was already the world’s favourite judging by various blogs. But this was proven when an online voting competition based on facebook likes was commissioned.
Awa Sanako managed to receive over 2,300 likes, whilst her closest contestant from Uruguay managed to secure about 1300 likes. Other contestants secured around 800 likes whiles some did not reach the 100 mark.
Awa who hails from Ivory Coast is already a professional catwalk model. The question is would Elite Model Look continue to deny models with African ancestry the chance to emerge ultimate winners.
