Tema, Jan. 28, GNA- A Tema circuit court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu on Wednesday fined a drunken driver of a taxi 600,000 cedis.
Samuel Affum who pleaded guilty while drunk will go to prison for three months if he fails to pay the fine. Prosecuting, Police Inspector Adolphus Otchere told the court that at 1030 hours on January 23, 2004, Affum, who was driving an Opel taxi was suspected to be drunk and when tested, he read 53 percent on the breathalyser.
The maximum acceptable level of alcohol accepted in the human system is 0.08 percent.
In addition to driving while drunk, Affum could not immediately produce his driving licence, the prosecutor said. In another development the court fined another driver, Samuel Essuman, one million cedis when he pleaded guilty to a charge of parking at unauthorised place.
He pleaded guilty and will go to prison for nine months if he fails to pay the fine.
