Court jails barber for assaulting his mother

Kuntanase (Ash), Sept. 10, GNA- The Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district court at Kuntanase on Monday sentenced a 27-year-old barber to three months' imprisonment in hard labour for assaulting his mother. Prince Boateng pleaded guilty.

Police Inspector Thomas Bossman Tuffour told the court that on August 30, this year, Boateng, who lived at Yabi went to his mother, Madam Akua Manu in Kumasi who had returned from Cote D'Ivoire and in the course of their conversation asked his mother to send him abroad. He said when Madam Manu told him that she had no money, Boateng became offended and started misbehaving towards her. Inspector Tuffour said on September 3, at about 1900 hrs, Boateng again went to his mother and this time demanded six million cedis, which he alleged she owed him. The prosecution said the accused then beat her. Madam Manu, therefore, reported the accused to the police.
