Court remands unemployed for false pretence

Ejisu (Ash), July 8, GNA - The Ejisu Magistrate's court on Wednesday remanded a 27-year-old unemployed in prison custody, charged with false pretences.

Francis Berchie pleaded not guilty and will re-appear on July 12. Police Inspector Nkansa Twumasi-Ankrah told the court that Miss Ernestina Adu is a poultry farmer at Ejisu.

He said on June 5, this year, she approached Berchie and told him that she needed a flat to rent to which the accused agreed to assist her.

Inspector Twumasi-Ankrah said the accused therefore took Miss Adu to a certain house and told her that it was his and was offering it for rent and will take six million cedis advance.

He said the complainant made part payment of three million cedis to Berchie and added the remaining three million cedis on June 20. The prosecution said Berchie gave the complainant keys purported to be for the flat to assure her that the flat was his.

However, Inspector Twumasi-Ankrah said when on June 25, the complainant packed her belongings and went to the house, she had the shock of her life when she was told that the house did not belong to Berchie.

Inspector Twumasi-Ankrah said she made a report to the police when it became obvious that Berchie could not refund the six million cedis.
