Controversial entertainment pundit Sally Mann has criticized Chef Smith for misleading the public with his Guinness World Record attempt for the longest cooking marathon in the world.

According to her, Chef Smith's tearful apology cannot simply negate the tarnish he has brought upon the nation's image worldwide, thus she characterizes it as crocodile tears.

"Due to this man's actions, some have discredited Faila's efforts for not sustaining the cook. This footage of crocodile tears amounts to nothing. Afua Asantewaa and others might have duped us too, but they followed the necessary steps. The Guinness World Record endeavor that we trivialize is actually paving the way for others; it's no laughing matter," Sally said in Twi on Radio XYZ.

She further asserted that Chef Smith's sponsors, led by Nana Boro, should initiate legal proceedings against Chef Smith to confirm their disassociation from the fraudulent and deceptive transaction.

"If the sponsors, Nana Boro and his team, litigate against him, then I will be persuaded that they are not implicated in the deceit. Cooking for 33 days is earnest. I am issuing a challenge to Amadia to litigate against him, as they are under suspicion," she added.

In a video that made waves on social media, a tearful Chef Smith was seen on his knees, with two emotional women by his side, as he offered a heartfelt apology to the nation, expressing deep remorse for the events that transpired.

"I have committed a great sin and I don't even deserve to live anymore but please forgive me and my entire family. I have sinned against the entire nation. I registered but I wasn't approved. I just wanted an opportunity to show the world the talent God has given me.

"I wanted the opportunity to show the world my passion for cooking and get fame. I am sorry," he said amidst tears.

Individuals he mentioned in his apology included the president and his vice, former president Mahama and his wife, as well as Nana Boro.

What happened?

Ghanaian Chef Ebenezer Smith conducted his cooking marathon from February 1 to March 6, 2024, at Amadia Shopping Centre located at Spintex, Accra.

On July 2, 2024, Chef Smith claimed to have set a new record for the longest cooking marathon.

However, his claim was disputed by Guinness World Records (GWR), which stated they never received an application from him, the certificate he presented was not recognized by GWR, and the official record is still held by Alan Fisher of Ireland.

Chef Smith's arrest at a press conference raised further questions. The event sponsors, Amadia Shopping Centre, explained they had a contract with Chef Smith to support his attempt and were unaware of the press conference he organized.

Adding to the foray, the Chefs Association of Ghana also clarified that Chef Smith is not a registered member despite using their logo during his attempt.
