Kumasi, July 21, GNA - A day's Inter-District Super-Zonal Cultural Festival organized by the Ghana Education Service for Basic Schools in the Ashanti Region was held in Kumasi on Saturday. Districts that participated included Kumasi, Obuasi, Asante-Akim North and South, Kwabre, Sekyere East, Kwabre, Ejura-Sekyedumasi and Atwima Nwabiagya.
The disciplines competed in were choral music, poetry recitals, drum language and drumming and dancing.
In choral music Obuasi municipality took the first position with the second and third positions going to the Kumasi metropolis and Kwabre district respectively while the Kwabre came first in poetry recitals with the Sekyere East and Kumasi placing second and third respectively. The Ejura-Sekyedumase District placed first in drumming and dancing with the second and third positions going to Asant-Akim North and Atwima-Nwabiagya respectively. In drum language, Kumasi took the first position with the second and third positions going to the Sekyere East and Ahafo-Ano South respectively. Mrs Belinda Serwaa Addo, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, emphasised the importance of culture in unifying the people in the country.
She commended the government for instituting the capitation grant that had given attention to the study of culture and sports in schools. She appealed to Ghanaians to learn, maintain and promote cultural values to ensure the development of the country. Nana Akosua Dokuaa, Headteacher of the Fawoade Roman Catholic Primary School who presided, advised the people against neglecting their culture.
