DJ Awana, "I have no restrictions to the music I play"

Award-winning DJ, Samuel Nartey, popularly known as DJ Awana, has expressed his profound gratitude to all his listeners and friends who voted for him to enable him to emerge as the Best Radio DJ at the recently held Radio and Television Personality Awards.

In an interview with BEATWAVES, DJ Awana said he counts the award as recognition of his efforts, “I feel honored but I feel there is more I can do to support the creative industry to grow. I feel proud to have been able to get this far. I am happy that my contribution to the world of music is recognized.”

The Hitz FM DJ, who began his radio career with Adom FM in 2003 and has carved a niche for himself as one of the top DJs in Ghana with his style of selection also pointed out that as a professional disc jockey, “I have no restrictions to the music I play; I cut across all the genres to bring satisfaction to a wide audience.”

With an outstanding career in radio for over a decade, DJ Awana has won the hearts of listeners with his style of presentation as a full time DJ on Accra- based Hitz FM, where he hopes to be at the decks for a long time to come.

He described himself as someone who is highly-motivated, determined, confident and thrives on challenges. “I have studied the trend of the radio industry and ready to go extra mile to meet the demands of radio listeners and my fans.”

DJ Awana caused a stir when he resigned from Adom FM and joined Oman FM in 2007, where he presented his unique selection of gospel music on Sunday mornings, as he used to do on Adom FM.

After three years at the Madina-based station, he packed his baggage and returned to the Multimedia fold.

Since then, he has been hosting his trademark Sunday morning gospel show while walking the city up with inspirational music.
