One of Africa’s hottest radio DJ and host of the Open House Party on Joy 99.7 FM, DJ Black, known in real life as Kwadwo Ampofo, is tipped to emerge over all best DJ in the maiden edition of the Ghana DJ Awards slated for October 26, at the National Theatre in Accra.

DJ Black, the acting programmes director of Hitz 103.9 FM and chief executive officer of Toontoom, has been nominated in seven out of the 20 categories for the awards.

Music lovers and analysts have tipped him to outshine his colleagues in the awards due to his prominence as one of the finest, hardworking and most widely known DJs in the country, both on radio and national stage, for the Ghana Music awards.

DJ Black, who has swept prestigious awards such as Rothmans 2001 West African DJ Champion, 2009 Red carpet awards independent artist and DJ award winner, NET 2010 NO 2 Top African Radio DJ and 2011 RTV Radio DJ of the year, was expected to follow the trend by emerging overall winner in the upcoming awards.

The Ghana DJ awards was aimed at promoting, honouring and rewarding the best achieving Ghanaian radio, night club and “recognized” mobile Disk Jockeys (DJ).

Produced by Merqury Republic Events, the event, first of its kind in Africa, brought more excitement and added value to the DJ profession in Ghana.

There were 21 categories covering major music genres in Ghana, from Highlife to Reggae, as well as Scratch DJ of the Year, Popular DJ Of The Year, Artist DJ Of The Year amongst other exciting categories.

This year, courtesy Scratch Studios and its international affiliates, the ultimate Ghanaian DJ scooped a prize package of GH¢20,000 including a return trip to London. The annual award show would also celebrate and honour Ghana’s biggest beat droppers and favourite club MCs both home and overseas and promised to be a breathtaking spectacle this year.
