Highlife artiste, Lucky Mensah appears not to be happy with disc jockeys (DJs) and radio presenters who give foreign songs rotation on their shows as he has thrown jabs at them.

Lucky Mensah in an interview with GhanaWeb refuted claims that highlife musicians have relented in their efforts in marketing themselves, saying the artistes are doing their best but DJs have refused to add highlife songs to their playlists.

According to him, if DJs were reasonable, they would promote highlife songs instead of dancehall which is alien to the culture and style of Ghanaian music.

“If DJs were level-headed and learned, they would project highlife than any genre because that is what defines us,” he said.

Event organisers were not left out as Lucky Mensah blamed them as well for the wobbly state of highlife music.

The ‘Bofre Nie’ hit maker expressed concern about event organisers’ constant decision to bill dancehall and rap artistes for shows and blacklist highlife musicians.

He suggested that it would be prudent for event organisers to engage the services of highlife artistes as well in order to keep the genre alive.
