When the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) released their eligibility criteria for its upcoming elections, one requirement that got the attention of many was the part that suggested a candidate must not have any criminal records.

That requirement drew the attention of industry persons who saw a possible exclusion of veteran musician Dasebre Gyamenah, who had expressed his interest in standing.

MUSIGA has however moved to dispel rumours they may be compelled to strike out his application to contest incumbent President Bice Osei Kufour (Obour) for his complexity in a drug related saga some years ago.

Director of Special Projects and Communications at MUSIGA, Ahuma Ocansey (Daddy Bosco), says it is not an issue.

“Yes Dasebre was acquitted and discharged which means that he has no criminal records hence he is very much eligible to stand for the position”.

“Dasebre Gyamenah is one out of many names who have showed interest in competing Obour as MUSIGA president,” he told Tigomusic.

MUSIGA’s election forms are out for Ghs 3,000. Submission will end in August, the body says.
