Ghanaian Hiplife musician Okyeame Kwame has urged Ghanaians to avoid politicising the #StopGalamseyNow campaign and to work collaboratively to combat the menace.

He has stressed that the #StopGalamseyNow campaign should transcend political affiliations and be fueled by a collective love for Ghana.

“The #StopGalamseyNow campaign must not be driven by politics. It should be about our shared love for Ghana and the desire to see it thrive,” he stated on social media.

Okyeame Kwame called on journalists, politicians, students, and all citizens to actively engage in the fight against galamsey by raising awareness and holding those responsible accountable.

“Let us all stop galamsey. I’m urging journalists not to stay silent and get rich. Politicians must take action. Students should agitate. I encourage all Ghanaians to take photos by these rivers and send them to the appropriate authorities so we can address the shame we’ve brought upon our land,” he said.

The ‘Rap Dacta,’ standing by the Butre River in the Western Region, emphasised the devastating effects of galamsey on Ghana's water bodies.

He expressed deep concerns over the contamination of river bodies by the galamsey activities and the health risks it poses to communities dependent on these water sources.

“Look at what galamsey is doing to our water bodies. It is destroying the rivers, and metals are entering our crops, which people are consuming,” he added.
