Ghanaian-American Archbishop Kofi Adonten Boateng has urged Ghanaians to refrain from harshly criticising Shatta Wale for his controversial online behavior.

In an interview with Kingdom FM on October 17, 2024, the US-based Archbishop said the dancehall musician’s actions stem from deep emotional wounds, particularly linked to neglect from his mother during childhood.

“Children remember these things when they happen to them, grow with them, and become very loud. So, when I hear him speaking loudly and insulting people, it’s because he's seeking the attention that he never got as a child.

“It's not wickedness or madness. God has placed him in a great position but he is emotionally damaged. The love, comfort and support he should have gotten as a child, he never got,” he said.

The Archbishop called for empathy rather than condemnation, encouraging Ghanaians to support Shatta Wale instead of ostracising him.

He has also identified that Shatta Wale’s readiness to confront others and his apparent lack of inner peace are signs of his emotional struggles.

“So you see that he is always ready to fight. It's like he isn't at peace with himself. So I plead with Ghanaians, let's stop condemning and ostracising him, he is the way he is because of what he has been through. Let's support him, he is blessed,” he added.
