Popular Ghanaian media personality and former host of 'Greetings from Abroad,' Nanahemaa Nana Adwoa Awindor, has advised young people to avoid going into relationships because of money.
Speaking at the 2024 Youth Week celebrations by the Assemblies of God Cedar Mountain Chapel church in Accra, Nana Adwoa Awindor said it was more important to choose a God-fearing and modest person over someone with wealth and status.
She noted that many people who married for riches or positions often ended up unhappy due to a lack of emotional support from their partners.
"You possibly will be better off marrying somebody who is modest and God-fearing than looking at all the riches on earth. I know someone living in a skyscraper who was crying every day. She followed the money because the man was rich and was like, ’He says he will buy me a house; he got me a car.’
“Yes, they are nice for now, but let it wane a bit. Let the exciting part wane a bit. And the reality hits. That's when you realise that the house is not as good as the human being that you need at a point in time to be close to you, to be advising you, to be holding you and comforting you in your time of need, and so many, many things in between, especially when you start having babies,” she said.
She advised the youth to be more circumspect in their choice of a partner, stating, “Please marry somebody who can be your friend. It's very important. Somebody who would like to laugh with you, smile with you, cry with you, and very importantly, joke with you,” she said.
