Ghanaian Kumawood actor Yaw Dabo has shared his thoughts on the ongoing debate surrounding Dr. Likee's role in "saving" the Kumawood industry.
The conversation intensified after Dr. Likee, who gained fame through digital platforms, was praised for his contributions to the industry's revival.
Actor Bill Asamoah disagreed with the claim, arguing that the revival of Kumawood is a collective effort.
In response, Dr. Likee addressed the controversy, stating he isn't interested in competing for titles with anyone and hitting back at his detractors.
But in a recent development during an interview with ZionFelix, Yaw Dabo has emphasised Dr. Likee’s rise to stardom and his undeniable impact on the Kumawood industry.
"He rose to fame through YouTube and other digital platforms, so right now he is a star," Dabo argued, pointing out the shift from traditional media to social media, where gaining huge attention makes one a star.
He continued, "Even if a traditional movie star starts creating short content and compares it to Dr. Likee’s, you’ll see that Likee is bigger."
Meanwhile, Dr. Likee, while addressing the ongoing controversy, clarified that his focus is on uplifting people from the streets rather than competing for fame.
He called for an end to the unnecessary hate, reminding everyone that his goal is to make a positive impact, not to engage in rivalry.
