A driver alleged to have knocked down a man at the Apenkwa overhead bridge near Achimota is at large and the victim cannot be traced.
According to an eyewitness, the lanky driver sped off with the accident victim when the crowd at the scene was searching for a vehicle to convey the injured man to hospital.
Stephen Asante, an ice cream seller at Apenkwa overhead who narrated the incident said, at about 12 midnight last Sunday, a man in his mid-twenties asked to be shown where he could urinate.
There was a screeching noise immediately after that, and as they moved closer to find out what was amiss they found the man lying on the ground with blood all over his body.
He said three of the five people on board a black BMW saloon car with registration number GT 5430 P ran off sensing danger from the gathering crowd. The driver who was visibly shaken requested that a taxi be hired to convey the victim to the hospital since he could not drive in that state.
But the taxi drivers around refused to give a helping hand. The eyewitness said consensus was reached that the driver who knocked the victim down should convey him to the hospital. He said after putting the injured man in the BMW they were looking for a Good Samaritan to escort the driver when he sped off with the victim.
Asante said expecting that the driver would send the victim to the 37 Military Hospital they followed up, but there was no trace of the driver or the victim. They therefore reported the matter to the Tesano Police where they were given a policeman with whom they searched the major hospitals to no avail.
