Driver charged with stealing granted 20 million cedis bail.

Tema, May 14, GNA - A driver who attempted to steal a quantity of cement blocks valued at 10 million cedis at Ashaiman Newtown was on Friday granted 20 million cedis bail by the Tema Circuit Court "A" Kwasi Aorgli pleaded not guilty and will reappear on May 19, 2004.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Mary Assunta told the court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that on March 18, 2004, an auto electrician who was at his workshop at Ashaiman Newtown, spotted the accused with two others standing by a quantity of cement blocks belonging to the Tema International School. She said the complainant remembered that a quantity of cement blocks that belonged to a friend were stolen by some people and therefore became suspicious and alerted some people around who rushed on the strangers.

It was there that the other two told them that the accused approached them that he has some blocks on a plot of land which the Tema Municipal Assembly (TMA) had threatened with warnings to remove them, therefore, he has decided to sell them off. Chief Inspector Assunta said the accused was arrested and handed over to the police, adding in his caution statement, he mentioned one Cudjoe from Accra as the one who brought him to collect and sell the blocks, but failed to locate him.
