Driver's mate stabbed to death over love affair

Kumasi, Dec. 14, GNA - Police at New Tafo (Krofrom) in Kumasi have launched an enquiry into the circumstances that led to the death of a 20-year-old driver's mate who is alleged to have been stabbed on Wednesday for snatching the girlfriend of his assailant.

Collins Asare, died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), soon after he had been rushed there after the incident, which occurred in front of the Kingdom Life Ministries at New Tafo.

The deceased's body had since been deposited at the Hospital's morgue for autopsy but a source close to KATH believed that he suffered internal haemorrhage after being stabbed in the chest by one Antwi, who is said to have picked up a quarrel with the deceased for snatching his girlfriend.

Information pieced together by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) indicated that Antwi, who is at large was said to have been in the company of the said girlfriend when the incident occurred. Briefing the GNA, a source at the New Tafo Police Station said the police had so far invited for questioning one Frema, the girlfriend, believed to be at the centre of the controversy and Kwabena Gyekye, a witness.

In a statement to the police, Gyekye narrated that as he was strolling with the deceased on the fateful day, they sighted the run-away suspect who was engaged in a serious argument with Frema.

"We then went closer to the scene to ascertain for ourselves the cause of the argument", he stated, adding that no sooner had they gotten closer to the two than Antwi removed a dagger from his pocket and stabbed the deceased in the chest.
