Entertainment pundit Ola Michael has voiced his support for the upcoming demonstration against power outages, commonly referred to as 'dumsor’.

The #DumsorMustStop demonstration, slated for June 8, 2024, aims to bring to light the plight of Ghanaians amid the ongoing power outages faced by the country since late 2023.

However, the demonstration, a sequel to the first #DumsorMustStop in 2015, has been said to be unnecessary by some who claim the dumsor situation is over.

In a discussion on UTV’s United Showbiz hosted by MzGee, Ola Michael berated individuals who questioned the motive for the 2024 demonstration, stating that the conveners have the right to protest over issues concerning them.

Ola Michael clarified that the protest aims to highlight not only the power outages but also their broader impact on businesses and daily life, including the escalating food prices and the weakening of the cedi against the dollar.

"In 2015, people said there was dumsor, so they went on a demonstration. It's 2024, and there is another dumsor situation, and we are deciding to go on another one. People are questioning why we are going on a demonstration. Some are saying there is no longer dumsor.

"This demonstration is not just about dumsor; it's about the rippling effects of dumsor on businesses and livelihoods. They are demonstrating about other issues like the rising costs of food and the crippling dollar-to-cedi rates," he stated.

Despite the doubts, Ola Michael declared that the demonstration would still proceed as planned, even if the turnout was low.

"Even if only two people come, we will do it. At the end of the day, we are drumming home the fact that there is a need for us to solve the situation," he said.
