Silky voice contemporary highlife singer, Ofori Amponsah, has announced his eminent retirement form active music. The Otoolege singer, who is still very popular among music enthusiasts, broke the news on Peace FM’s Entertainment Review programme last Saturday.
“Kwasi I didn’t want to say this but I think I have to. I always find it hard to say this because anytime I bring it up, a lot of people around me find it hard to believe or accept it but it is in my heart. I think that is what will make me happy and more fulfilled.
“I am retiring from music very soon” Ofori dropped the bombshell. “I feel it is time for me to do other things”. He said this is something he really wants to do to give other young artistes the opportunity and also impact his knowledge on aspiring musicians.
The sultry singer further revealed that he intends staying away from studio recordings and commercial releases. “I know I can’t do this straightaway like that so I am taking everything step by step. But I can say my new Kala album, is one of my last albums, he disclosed. When Kwasi Aboagye, host of the programme, asked him why he wanted to retire so early in his musical career, Ofori said he believed he could do more to impact on society and the country as a whole if he worked behind the scenes and use his experience to teach other people. According to him his versatility and creativity can be applied to other fields other than music.
“I want to do what will make me happy because enough is enough. Today, Ofori Amponsah is releasing a new album, tomorrow when is Ofori going to release his next album, it is too much for me”. As to when exactly he will be retiring, Ofori who is in his mid 30s said “Well this album is one of the last from Ofori Amponsah. I’m not saying I’m staying entirely away from music. It will be very difficult to leave music because it is in me.”, he stated.
The still vibrant musician intends to do a lot of things during his pending retirement including authoring a book on how one can write a very good song, how to record and make a hit song.
The ‘Odwo’ hit maker, who expressed his desire to venture into the movie industry also disclosed on Peace FM that he is putting up a school complex which will run from the kindergarten stage to the Senior High School level where the study of music will be compulsory for every student.“I want every student who graduates from the school to have an idea about what music entails, like playing musical instruments, writing their own songs and making great compositions” he added.
Meanwhile Mr. All 4 Real, as he is also known, has just released his latest album titled Kala which is already making waves with Auntie Muniba, a track which features S.K. Blings. The album is a comeback of Ofori Amponsah and “the Camp” (comprising of Kofi Nti, Baroski and Richie Rich)”.
