After groping his way through the dark tunnel of eviction for sometime, humorous Erico has finally seen the light at the end of the tunnel?he has been voted back into the Mentor House.
This week?s eviction free edition of Mentor 3 saw Erico emerging the favorite of the fans against four other evicted contestants: KG, Peter, Gina and the ailing Nana who, as though knew what fate awaited him, did not turn up for the show.
The program started with individual performances by the four evicted contestants except Nana. Many tipped KG as the one to return to the Mentor House as his own version of Akon?s ?Don?t Matter? got the whole house on their feet, jumping and waving to the smooth rhythm this young chap was dishing out.
After the four had had their turn, Lisa showed up with the song ?Walatu Walasa?, an old tune from the group known as Wulomei. She was cladded in a traditional piece of cloth with beads to match, and her voice did match her outfit. But for Mark, the ?judge of doom? who called the performance a mediocre, all the other judges gave two thumbs up for her effort. The contestant who presumably carried the day was Dela with the hit song from Wulomei in the 1980?s titled ?Meridian?.
She won the heart of the judges, even that of hard-hearted, mean cuss Mark would not be a shock if she turns out to be the next and first female Mentor. Paul also received generally good comments after his performance of the song ?A Good One There?. Faya and Nadjat performed ?Money Palaver? and ?Hume Mobo? respectively. However, both failed to impress the judges, albeit a section of the audience moved hands and feet to the contestants? own versions of the songs.
?You are too stiff and gentlemanly. You need to boogie about a bit?, were the words from judge Mark to Paa after he had performed the old school track ?Wubekumi? to the best of his know-how, although the track brought back nostalgic memories to Mark himself as he confessed reminiscing the times ace DJ KKD used to play it anytime he was on air at GBC. However, Paa?s performance was fine to the other judges.
Erico, in an interview with The Weekly Fylla confessed that he never anticipated his re-entry into the Mentor House. ?But I guess I am the favorite of the fans. That does not mean I am superior to the other contestants. We are equally good singers.? He said.
Peter however was not in the least disappointment. He said Erico deserved it because he is equally good. ?I am cool?, he shrugged after the show. Aside the usual technical hitches which caused a short delay and sent the technical Einsteins running helter skelter for a solution, the show was generally a good one and deserves a thumb?s up. Way to go, TV3 and TIGO.
