Escorting my wife to events doesn't make me a fool - Afua Asantewaa's husband

Kofi Aduonum, husband to Afua Asantewaa, has addressed the critique regarding his presence with his wife at public events.

He said that he is unfazed by the disapproval from some who question his reasons for accompanying his wife to such gatherings.

He believes that ensuring a wife's safety is a husband's duty, which is why he is seen with her at events.

In an interview with Emelia Brobbey on the Okukuseku show, which was monitored by GhanaWeb, Aduonum asserted that consistently accompanying his wife does not imply foolishness.

"The Bible calls women weaker vessels. People complain about why they see me with her always. As a man, I'm often seen with her, but aiding her is harmless in my view.

"Those who see it as an issue due to their status, that's their concern. A man's role is to guard the woman. That's also why men sleep behind women in bed. This doesn't make me foolish; it's about protection," Aduonum explained.

His comments come in response to social media users who criticized his frequent public appearances with his wife, deeming it unbecoming of a man.

Asantewaa gained prominence after embarking on a journey to break the Guinness World Record attempt for the longest individual singing marathon in December 2023. The attempt was, however, unsuccessful.

The decision to disqualify Asantewaa was announced via a statement from the official Guinness World Records social media handle. The organization cited a breach of regulations as the cause of her unsuccessful attempt.
