Ghanaian reggae artiste Blakk Rasta has expressed worry over the current state of journalism in Ghana.
Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he said that, compared to how journalism was practiced in the past, Ghana is witnessing a decline in the quality of work done by journalists.
Blakk Rasta, who is also a broadcaster, stated that he values and appreciates the profession because of its impact on society, but he is concerned about the current status of journalism.
The advent of social media, he argued, has had some level of negative impact on journalism.
"Journalism was very good in the past, but unfortunately, the level of professionalism has fallen. We have to do our best and raise the standards again. The introduction of social media has affected the quality of work and professionalism.
"Because of monetization on social media, some people are prepared to do anything just to be able to get the money. When the mind is all about the money, the quality of work will be affected. That is the problem we have today. But journalism is an admirable profession," he said.
